It's widely used in all kinds of rope rigging.
The difference between aluminum ferrules and clips is that the clip can be used repeatedly, but the aluminum ferrule can't. It is  not available to loosen after clamping. It can be clamped on the wire rope by a hammer hydraulic clamp or stamped with a punch.
